About Maddox Square Durga Puja
Maddox Square Durga Puja is one of the city’s most popular events. The late Saroj Bagchi established the Durga puja at his Ritchie Roadhouse in 1935. The following year, this south Kolkata Durga puja was relocated to Maddox Square Park, Ballygunge, Kolkata.
In 1960, the idol was remodelled into the conventional ‘Ekchala’ design, together with the white-coloured outfit acknowledged as “Daker Saaj”. The idol is adorned with gold ornaments from several local dwellers, jewellery shop owners and committee associates. The pandal is built in a ‘nat mandir’ conventional pattern.
In the 50th year, in 1985, the ‘Daker Saaj’ was reformed from white to gold and continues to this day. The Late Srish Chanda Pal, a President’s Medal prize winner, initially crafted the idol. Mr Nikhil Pal makes the idol in Kalighat’s ‘Potuapara’.
By its very nature, the Durga puja exhibits an extremely cosy ambience in the pandal. The entire community unites to enjoy Durga Puja and gather in their personal space. During the distribution time of the puja days, everyone receives Prasad and Bhog.
The Maddox Square puja has been frequently awarded for its superb ambience. The park has six arrival and departure points to ease the guests’ activities.
Visitors can de-stress after pandal hopping and relish the yummy food available in the space, ranging from Phuchkas to Pizza. The balloon shooting stalls are also on the pandal premises. The visitors love several artistic activities that the committee members arrange.

The nearest metro station to Maddox Square is Jatin Das Park, 1km away. You can get to Maddox Square fromHazra Road by taking Sarat Bose Road and then to the Ritchie Road crossing. After, take the Ballygunge circular road, pass St. Lawrence School, and reach Maddox Square.
