Bangiya Parishad is a social and cultural organisation. In 1963, a few Bengalis joined and established Bangiya Parishad Thane to promote Bengal’s culture, art, and heritage. Thousands of committee members work to improve society.

Srijon Sammilani Bengali Association of Palava was established in 2017. The NGO engages in many welfare activities throughout the year. Initiatives undertaken by Srijon include starting a green movement, helping needy families, and working towards recycling and reducing plastic waste.
All key festivals, such as Saraswati Puja, Kali Puja, and Holi, are celebrated. As per tradition, they would welcome an idol of Maa Durga with ten hands (Dashabhuja). Underprivileged girls will be helped in 10 distinct ways to mark the celebration.

16. Pragati Sarbojanin Shree Shree Durga Puja
The Pragati Sarbojanin Shree Shree Durga Puja will commence on Maha Panchami with a bodhon and will conclude on the Juhu Beach with a Bisarjan. It is one of Andheri’s oldest Durga Puja.
The event will include pushpanjali, aarti, sandhi puja, havan, and other rituals. It will also feature cultural programmes, including a live orchestra, karaoke songs by Ms. Supriya and Mr. Lucky, and a ballet performance.

About the Durga Puja festival
Durga Puja is one of the most important festivals for Bengalis. It’s a 10-day event. The festivities begin on the day of Mahalaya, when Goddess Durga comes to earth from her mythological home, Kailash.
The most important days of Durga Puja
The festivities begin on the sixth day (Sashthi), when the pandals are officially inaugurated.
On the seventh (Saptami), eighth (Ashtami), and ninth (Navami) days, goddess Durga, along with goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswathi, and Ganesha, Kartikeya, is worshipped.
The tenth day (Vijaya Dashami) is the festival’s last day. On this day, the married women put sindoor (vermilion) on their foreheads and then play with sindoor by smearing it on one another. They ask for a blissful married life as a blessing. It is believed that Goddess Durga returns to Kailash Parvat on the tenth day with her family.
People immerse the idols in the holy Ganga with a heavy heart and wait for the goddess to return next year. With this, the festival of Durga Puja ends.
