Haridwar Tour

Rishikesh to Haridwar

We reached Haridwar from Rishikesh by a Bikram, a large-sized auto. The fare was Rs. 70 per person and took us 40 minutes to reach. This road leading to Hardiwar is very beautiful, and the Ganges can be seen after crossing Raja Ji National Park. On the road, we saw the huge Bhupatwala Shantikunj Flyover.

Haridwar Hotel

The auto dropped us at Haridwar Station. We booked Hotel Ashok near Shivmurti crossing, which is close to the station (500 mtr approx), and public transport is easily available from here. We booked a non-ac double bedroom for Rs. 1200. Ac rooms at this hotel start from Rs. 1500. People who want to stay in this hotel can take our name or our channel’s name for an additional discount on the hotel tariff.

Haridwar Tour, First day

On the first day, we planned to visit all the temples near Kanakhal Daksheshwar. After lunch, we boarded a toto for Rs. 30 per person to reach Shree Daksheshwar Mahadev – Daksh Prajapati Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The place is named after Sati Devi’s father, Daksh Prajapati. According to the tales, Daksh Prajapati arranged a Yajna and didn’t invite Lord Shiva. Due to this, Sati Devi ended her own life by jumping into the fire. Upon seeing this, Lord Shiva got angry and took his Rudra form.

There are many temples located in these premises, along with a Sati Kund and a Shiv Ling. This place is open 24/7. There is also a Ghat located beside the temple.

After this, we went to the Maa Anandamayee Ashram located on the opposite side. In 1930, Maa Anandamayee came to Kankhal and stayed here. Visitors can see her statue and resting place. The inside is very peaceful and calming. This ashram is open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Then, we took a toto to visit Pilot Baba’s ashram. The fare was Rs. 10 per person for 2 km. Pilot Baba, in his early life, was an officer in the Indian Air Force. Later, he had a spiritual awakening and spent 16 years in the Himalayas, in the Nanda Devi River area. The ashram charges an entry fee of Rs. 5. It is a huge place with many artefacts, but the most notable is the 100-foot Shiv Statue. The temple is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The next place we went to was the Sati Kund. Located 2 km away; fare was Rs. 10 per person. It is located on the main road and is visible from a distance. Then we went to see Harihar Ashram, which was 2km away and took about 15-20 minutes. The travel fare was Rs. 10 per person.

This place is one of the most famous Ashrams in Haridwar, which claims to be “your spiritual sanctuary”. Inside this ashram, people can find the Parad Shivling, the Mahamrityunjay Mandir, and a rare Rudraksha Tree.

After roaming around the premises, we first saw the Parad Shivling, which is made of 150kg of mercury and has a silver serpent. Then visit the Mahamrityunjay temple and admire the rare ancient Rudraksha tree. Fruits from this Rudraksha tree are sold here at the souvenir shop. The temple is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Then we went to Sati Ghat, which is 1km away and toto fare is Rs. 10 for an individual. This river in Kankhal is one of the holiest and oldest water bodies in Hardiwar. The place is mainly where people come to scatter the ashes of their loved ones. It is believed that ashes poured in this water turn into sand within three days by the grace of Goddess Ganga.

From Sati Ghat, Har ki Pauri Ghat is 5km away, and toto fare is Rs. 30 per person. We went here to view the majestic Evening Ganga Aarati. Within 1 to 1.5 km of this ghat, there is no public transport, so visitors have to walk the entire way.

Thousands of people gather here to witness this pure, sacred ceremony. The boxes play devotional music, the chantings of Mantra and the sound of bells ringing make the surroundings a spiritual marvel. Visitors must come early to get a seat at the ghat. The best way to witness this magic is to reach the Haridwar clock tower, as it offers the best viewing spot.

In summer, the Aarti begins at 6.30 p.m., and in winter, at 5.30 p.m. In this area, only Rickshaws are available, so we took a rickshaw from Kotwali for Rs. 200.

We found a shop near the Ghat selling shawls, stoles, pants, and other winter clothing at very reasonable prices. Now, from Kotwali, we boarded a toto to reach the station for Rs. 10

Haridwar Tour, Second day

On the second day, we planned to visit Har Ki Pauri Ghat, the temples around it, and Bharatmata Ashram. We took a toto to reach Har Ki Pauri Ghat, which cost us around Rs. 20. The toto dropped us quite far from the Ghat, so we started walking following the Ganges. After walking for 15 minutes, we reached the place.

Here, we saw many people performing religious rituals, some taking a bath in the Ganges. We sat on the stairs to relish the beautiful scenery. The temples are located on one side, and the other side has seating for priests. Here, they perform various rituals.

The temples near the ghat include Gangamata Temple, Hari Mandir, Maya Devi Temple, Gangeshwar Mahadev, Balmiki Temple, Bramha Kund, and Asthi Prabah Ghat. We visited each of these temples staring with Gangamata Temple. The Ganga Aarti is performed in front of this temple.

Then, beside it, were the Hari Mandir dedicated to Lord Bishnu and the Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple. The oldest temple is the Maya Devi temple. Then there is Bramha Kundu, where visitors can see the foot imprint of Lord Vishnu. This ghat is also named after Vishnu Dev, the word Har Ki Pauri means God Vishnu’s Foot. These temples are open from morning till evening for Aarati.

After seeing all of these, we came to the main road and took a toto. It costs around Rs. 100, and is about 5km away from Bharat Mata Temple. On the way, we saw many temples, but we stopped at Sapt Sarovar Road. From here, we started walking and saw all the temples before reaching Bharat Mata Temple. We saw Aacharya Bela India Temple, Shri Tulsi Manas Temple, Kalash Mandir, and Vaishno Devi Mandir.

Aacharya Bela India Temple was the first one on our path. The entry fee is Rs. 10, and an extra Rs. 10 for phones inside the temple. Then, the Shri Tulsi Manas Temple, which houses statues of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshmana. Next was the Kalash Mandir; all these temples are beautifully made, depicting various mythological stories.

Then we went to the Vaishno Devi temple, the inside of the temple feels like the real temple of Jammu. Next, we visited the Bharat Mata Temple, an eight-story building. Each floor is dedicated to a different god or goddess. There are many statues of India’s spiritual leaders. The place also has a lift that charges Rs. 5. We took the lift and reached the 8th floor, from where we viewed the natural beauty and part of Rajaji National Park.

Next, we boarded a toto in front of the Bharat Mata Temple to go see Pawan Dham and Sheesh Mahal Ram Mandir. The Toto charge was Rs. 20 per person, and the distance was 2.5km, and the time took 15 minutes.

The Pawan Dham or Glass Temple is a renowned place in Haridwar. This entire temple is decorated using colourful glass shards and depicts various Puranic stories. It is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Then we went to Sheesh Mahal Ram Mandir, located beside it. This temple is also made the same way, using glass to depict stories. The first thing to be seen is a marvellous statue of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman.

Haridwar Tour, Third day

On the third day, we visited the Manasa Devi and Chandi Devi temples. From the station, we took a toto to reach Kotwali more. It costs around Rs. 10 per person. The entrance to the Manasa Devi temple is located on the way to Har ki Pauri Ghat. When we went to buy a ticket for the ropeway from Manasa temple, it was less crowded. From here, visitors can buy a combined ropeway ticket for Chandi Devi Temple.

The ropeway ticket for Manasa Devi temple is Rs. 199, and for Chandi Devi temple, it is Rs. 240. The combined ticket also costs the same. If you want to take the bus service, then an additional Rs. 95 will be added. We did not purchase any combined ticket or their bus service.

We only bought the ticket for the Manasa Devi Temple and reached there. There are also stairs leading up to the Temple. It is 3KM long and takes about 1 hour. The temple is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This temple is one of the five sacred places, or Pancha Tirtha. The temple is located at the top of the Bilwa Parvat in the Himalayas and can be seen from every part of Haridwar.

Then we came down to Kotwali More and took a toto to Chandi Devi Temple for Rs. 20 per head. After coming here, we bought a ropeway ticket for Rs. 240 per person. This temple is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Located at the top of Neel Parvat.

You can reach the temple by walking 3.5km along a road. The ropeway takes about 5 to 7 minutes to reach. After touring, we took a toto to reach our hotel on Shiv Murti Gali. We had dinner at a local shop and, after checking in, reached Haridwar Station.

After waiting some time, we boarded the 13010 Doon Express. Although the train was late for seven hours. We had packed food, lassi, and sweets, so we opted out of the train meal. This is how our Uttarakhand- Haridwar tour ended.
