2 Night 3 Days Darjeeling Tour From Kolkata on a Budget 2026

From Kolkata’s Sealdah Station, we boarded the Darjeeling Mail and reached NJP Station around 8 am. From here, take an auto to reach Tenging Norge bus stand. This is our 3-day 2-night Darjeeling tour from Kolkata.

In this place, shared cars are available for Darjeeling or Kalimpong. First, we visited Kalimpong, then again we booked a shared card from Kalimpong to reach Darjeeling. The shared car cost us around Rs. 250 per person to reach here. We booked our stay at Wind Chimes Homestay in Darjeeling. This homestay provided us with great food and a comfortable stay.

Darjeeling, known as the Queen of the Hills, is located on the northern side of West Bengal. Part of the Eastern Himalayas, it is one of the most famous hill stations.

Darjeeling Tour From Kolkata Daywise Itinerary

  • DAY 1: Himalayan Tibet Museum, Darjeeling Clock Tower, Darjeeling Mahakal Temple
  • DAY 2: Ghoom Railway Station, Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop, Dali Monastery, Darjeeling Botanical Garden, Darjeeling Ropeway, Tenzing Rock, HMI, or the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling Zoo, Happy Valley Tea Estate, St. Andrews Church, Darjeeling Observatory Hill View Point, Shrubbery Nightingale Park

Darjeeling Tour Day 1

On our first day, we visited the Himalayan Tibet Museum. This place tells a story about the Tibetan culture, its people, and traditions. Here, people can find a Buddha statue and other artefacts donated by the great Dalai Lama himself. The entry fee for adults is Rs. 50 and kids aged 5-15 are Rs 15.

Then we visited the Darjeeling Clock Tower, built in 1850 during the British rule. Locally, this place is known as ‘Ghanta Ghar’. It serves as a reminder and a meeting place.

If tourists want to visit the Tiger Hill via shared car. They can go to Keventer’s at around 3.30 a.m.; many shared cars are available for transport.

Darjeeling Mahakal Temple is located near the Mall Road. It is surrounded by mountains and beautiful pine trees. The inside of the temple is decorated with colourful flags. This temple was constructed in 1782 by Lama Dorjey Rinzing. Both Hindus and Buddhists come here to pray. Here, a Shivling, Maa Kali, Hanuman ji, and a Buddha statue are present.

On the second day, visit the Ghoom Railway Station first. This station is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the highest station in India. The famous toy trains stop at Ghoom station. Then walk for 700 meters to reach the Old Ghoom Monastery. This is one of the oldest monasteries, constructed in 1950. Tourists can take local transport to Ghoom, which costs around Rs. 30 per person.

Then visit the Ghoom Monastery, built in 1975. The place has very carefully preserved old Buddhist books.

After that, take a shared car to Batasia Loop for Rs. 20 per person. It has amazing views of Kangchenjunga and the toy train passing by. The place was built as a memorial to the Battle of Batasia. The entry fee is Rs. 20 per person.

Visit the Dali Monastery by shared car for Rs. 20 per person. This Monastery was built in 1971 and is one of the largest in Tibet. It is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From the Darjeeling car stand, a short walk will take you to the Darjeeling Botanical Garden. It is a 40-acre nature reserve. This garden features some of the tallest trees, 150 varieties of cacti, and an orchid house. Entry fee is rs.20 per person.

The Darjeeling Ropeway was constructed in 1968 and is India’s first cable car. The total ride is for 45 minutes. Then reach the Tenzing Rock, near Lebong Cart Road. It was named after Tenzing Norgay, who climbed Everest in 1953. It has rock climbing and other activities.

HMI, or the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, was inaugurated in 1954 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It was created in honour of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary’s successful Everest journey. Ticket prices are Rs. 100. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed every Thursday.

Beside it is located the Darjeeling Zoo. Which is the only zoo where visitors can see red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan wolf, etc. Then take another shared car to the Happy Valley Tea Estatebuilt in 1854. Regarded as one of the largest and oldest tea estates of Darjeeling.

St. Andrews Church is located only 500 meters from Darjeeling Mall. It was established in 1843 and is open only on Sundays. From here, the Darjeeling Observatory Hill View Point is a 2-3 minute walking distance. On a clear day, people can see the mesmerising Kanchenjunga from here.

Then go to the Shrubbery Nightingale Park near the Mall road. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket prices are Rs. 20 per persona. This park is also known as the Hanging Garden. From here, visitors can get the best view of the Kanchenjunga and other snow-clad mountains.

The Mall Road features numerous shopping and food stalls. People can shop here for winter wear, beautiful shawls, and more.

Darjeeling Tour Day 3

On the third day, visit the Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda in a reserved car from Mall Road. It will cost around 500. The Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda was inaugurated in 1972 and 1992. Entry fee is free, and it is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The natural beauty and the temple’s architecture are a marvellous feast for the eyes. The Bose Institute Campus will be on the way over.

After returning to the Darjeeling Bus Stand, take a taxi to Pashupati Marketlocated on the Nepal-India Border. Car fare is Rs.200 individually. After presenting government-issued ID, people can enter. There is a Temple and a Market located. The scenery along the road is beautiful, with pine forests and views of the hills.

After that, visit Mirik, which is 15 km away. On the way to Mirik, visit the Gopaldhara Tea Estate. Enjoy the beautiful view of Mirik Lake and the surrounding area.

A Darjeeling tour can be done on a low budget. In three days, two nights, people can visit all the tourist spots. The place is beautiful and offers many activities for tourists to enjoy. Visit Tiger Hill or the Batasia Loop. This place has convenient public transportation and shared and reserved cars. Many places have free entry.  Shopping, eating, and lodging can be done on a very small budget.
