You can find various theme-based pujas in South Kolkata. Start Pandal hopping in south Kolkata with these tips:-

First, you need to reach Rashbehari Avenue or Kalighat metro station. Visit Badamtala Ashar Sangha, 66 Pally Durga Puja Pandal, Kalighat Nepal Bhattacharjee Street Club, and Chetla Agrani Club, and return to Rashbihari again.

Next, move on to Gariahat and visit Deshapriya Park, Samaj Sebi Sangha, Ballygunge Cultural Association, Tridhara Sammilani, Hindustan Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja, Singhi Park, Ekdalia Evergreen Club, Falguni Sangha Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity, Ekush Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samiti, Bosepukur Sitala Mandir, Bose Pukur Talbagan, and Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha.

Come back to Gariahat again and go towards Golpark. Visit Babubagan Club, Selimpur Pally Durga Puja Pandal, Jodhpur Park Durga Puja, 95 Pally, Satoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsab Puja Committee, Pally Mangal Samity Sarbojanin, Santoshpur Lake Pally, and reach Jadavpur police station.

After returning to Jadavpur Thana, go to the South City Mall to visit Mudiali Club and Shiv Mandir.

1. Hazra Park Durga Puja

Hazra Park Durga Puja is among the oldest Durgotsab in West Bengal. The committee has taken pride in celebrating Durga Puja for 80 years. They were the first to erect a pandal for blind people. A Braille board was set up to let people touch and learn more. 

The committee’s most famous theme was “Tandav.” The pandal depicted various aspects of daily life struggles.

2. Bhawanipur 75 Pally Durga Puja

Bhowanipur 75 Palli is among the breathtaking Durga Pujas organised in South Kolkata. This Sarbojanin Durgotsab was first started in 1965. Their 57th year and Kolkata’s Durga Puja’s UNESCO tag were celebrated with a “patachitra” theme. The committee’s unique Durga idol is a crowd-puller. Every year, they erect a huge pandal with mesmerizing interiors.

3. Badamtala Ashar Sangha Durga Puja

The Sangha, under the presidency of Mr Deepak Laroia, will celebrate the 84th puja this year. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the puja yearly, and Badamtala will participate in many social activities.

They provide insurance to workers, decorators, and visitors every year. The club also organizes blood donations, Dengue and Malaria health camps, etc.

4. 66 Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsab Committee Puja Pandal

Every year, the 66 Pally Sarbojanin Durgotsab Puja Committee sets up an impressive pandal and hosts a grand Durga Puja celebration. This puja was started in the year 1951. Every year, this club has done unique things. Last year, four female priests worshipped Debi Durga.

The puja committee has also arranged for several cultural programs during the festival, including music performances and dance recitals.

5. Kalighat Nepal Bhattacharjee Street Club Durga Puja

Kalighat Nepal Bhattacharjee Street Club Durga Puja is one of Kolkata’s oldest and most prestigious puja pandals. It was established in 1980 by the Late Nepal Bhattacharjee, a reputed barrister of the Calcutta High Court. The puja pandal is located on Kalighat Main Road near the famous Kali Temple.

6. Chetla Agrani Club Durga Puja

The Chetla Agrani Club was previously called “The Imperial Club.” In 1959, it was renamed Chetla Agrani. The club will celebrate its 29th Durga puja this year, and it also celebrates other festivals and puja, such as Kali puja.

The organization is involved in many social activities. The committee distributes free clothes, books, and blankets. They organize many camps, such as blood donations and medical centres.

Hindustan Club Durga Puja is the oldest in South Kolkata. 18. Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha Durga Puja

Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha, established in 1972, is one of South Kolkata’s oldest and most popular puja pandals. The highlight of this puja is the beautiful Durga idol, made of clay and decorated with gold ornaments. The pandal attracts devotees who offer their prayers to the goddess Durga.

Other gods, including Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Lakshmi, are also installed at Rajdanga during Durga puja. During the puja days, several stalls also sell traditional Bengali sweets like ‘rasogolla and mishti doi’. They have wheelchair facilities also.

Suruchi Sangha is a cultural and sports club in New Alipore that was established in 1952. It has a playground and provides other facilities. The organization has been organizing Durga Puja for the past 55 years. Since 2001, the club has been organizing puja at the 2nd 5 Point crossing of Kolkata. 

Last year, this puja got the Biswa Bangla Samman from the West Bengal government.

33. Naktala Udayan Sangha Durga Puja

Naktala Udayan Sangha is a top social organization in Kolkata, established in 1986. Last year, they made a pandal that resembled sea waves. The club roped in 60 migrant labourers from Murshidabad, Nadia, and South 24 Parganas districts to create the pandal.

Each wave symbolized the plight of migrant labourers who wanted to return to their hometowns. Their idol of the goddess Durga was 12 feet in height.
