Deshapriya Park Pandal – World’s Tallest Goddess Durga Idol
In 2015, Deshapriya Park was made the world’s tallest Goddess Durga idol. Every social media platform, like Facebook & Twitter, was flooded with its mention. Big stars like Amitabh Bachchan shared a picture of Kolkata’s showstopper. They made the 88-foot-tall idol on a whopping budget of INR 250 crores (approx).
Deshapriya Park drew attention for its tall idol, mega-budget, and corporate sponsorship. The exclusive sponsor for Deshapriya Park Durga Puja 2015 was Star Cement, which sponsored INR 5 crores (approximately). Because of its elevation, the idol was made of fibreglass and cement instead of traditional clay.
Sculptor Mintu Pal erected the idol, keeping all the features of a conventional Durga figurine in mind. According to him, no devotional or aesthetic aspects were bargained for height.
The 88-foot-tall Durga idol at Deshapriya Park is in the Limca Book of Records, the Indian Book of Records, and the Asia Book of Records. And it may soon enter its name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In 2016, the Deshapriya Park Durgotsab organisers created an idol with 1000 hands to kill 100 asuras (demons). For 2017, their theme was inspired by the Mahishmati palace in the film Baahubali. In 2023, the theme was Jyoti. Last year, the theme was Bhubaneswari.
