Insight of Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar
Baba Baidyanath Dham is the prime attraction in Deoghar. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India, all of which are located in different places. Baidyanath Dham is 4 km from Deoghar Railway Station and Jasidih Railway Station, and the temple is eight km away.
In 1596, Raja Puranamal Laxmi Narayan built this temple. The Baidyanath Temple is 72 feet high, east-facing, and looks like a lotus. Three gold ships, donated by the Maharaja of Gidhaur, Raja Puran Singh, are placed on top of the temple.
Apart from this, the ‘Punchsula Trishul’ and ‘Chandrakanta Mani’ are placed atop the temple. The ‘Chandrakanta Mani’ is an eight-petal lotus. The main Shiva Linga is about 5 inches in diameter and is placed on a large slab. The top of the Shiva Linga is broken. On the temple premises, many other temples are dedicated to the gods and goddesses.
There are 22 temples in the temple complex, like Saraswati, Kali, Tara Maa, Ganesh, Parvati, Ram-Sita, Manson, Mahakal, Bishweshwar, and many other gods and goddesses. These temples are built in new and old architectural styles. A holy well is situated in the temple complex.
Maa Parvati Temple is situated opposite the Baidyanath Dham temple. This temple is one of the 51 Satipiths. Sati’s heart fell here. It is also a very sacred place for the devotees. First, pilgrims offer puja to Baba Baidyanath, then to Maa Parvati.

Baidyanath Dham Puja
At the temple entrance, visitors pass through a small door to reach the Shiva lingam for ritual purposes. After completing the puja, devotees come to the Mata Parvati temple opposite the Baba Baidyanath temple and do all the rituals. Then, the puja is completed in the traditional way.
For that reason, the Mandir of Mata Parvati and the main temple are tied up with red threads. These unique features and symbols show the unity of Shiva and Shakti.
Baidyanath Dham Temple Timings
The temple is open from 4:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the evening.
The worship started at 4:00 a.m. From 4 am to 5:30 am. The temple head priest offered puja to Baba Baidyanath. That is called Sarkari puja. From 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the local public could offer their puja. After that, the temple was closed. Again, at 6 p.m., the temple was open for devotees.
Baba is decorated with flowers in the evening, known as ‘Baba’s Rajbesh’. At that time, no puja happened for the general public. This time, the puja is called Shringar Puja. At 9 pm, the Mandir is closed.
Baba Baidyanath Dham VIP Pass
In the Baidyanath temple, you can quickly offer puja to Lord Siva with a Baidyanath darshan VIP card. The card cost is 250 rupees, excluding the priest’s fee. You can get a Baba Baidyanath Dham Vip Pass from the local puja essential shop near the temple. You can also buy Puja Dala for 51 rupees, 101 rupees, 151 rupees, and so on.
Note—The temple authority suspended the VIP Darshan facility at the Baidyanath temple due to heavy rush during special public occasions, such as the Shravani Mela.
Shravani Mela in Baijnath Dham Mandir, Deoghar
Every Year, the Shravani Mela begins in July and ends in August. It is for one monthly fair. Baba Baidyanath Dham darshan is increased from July to August, in Shravan.
Millions of devotees gathered in the Baidyanath Dham Jharkhand temple during this period. As per the report, around 50 to 55 lakhs of devotees visit Baijnath Dham Darshan from July to August.

Deoghar is about 330 kilometres from Kolkata. Trains to Baidyanath Dham Deoghar depart from Sealdah, Kolkata, and Howrah stations.
It takes 6 to 7 hours by train. The nearest railway stations to Baidyanath Dham are Deoghar and Joshidih. The station is also known as Baidyanath Dham Station; from here, Baidyanath Dham Mandir is 4 kilometres away. Outside the Deoghar railway station, you can get an Auto rickshaw to the Baidyanath Temple.
By Car/Bus
From Kolkata—Esplanade Bus Stand, you can take many buses to Deoghar. From early morning to evening, buses run to Deoghar and Baidyanath Dham. The distance from Kolkata to Deoghar is approximately 321 kilometres via NH19. It takes 6 to 7 hours by roadway.

Story of Baijnath Dham Mandir
According to mythology, Dashanan Ravana practised meditation in the Himalayas to please Lord Shiva. So he cut his head off and placed it on the Shiva Linga.
When Ravana attempted to cut off his last head, Mahadev was pleased and saw him. Then Ravana asked for a boon to take an established ‘Kamna Ling’ to Lanka.
Mahadev was satisfied and accepted his wish with a condition: he would not leave the Shivaling anywhere in the journey. Ravana agreed with the agreement.
After listening to Lord Shiva’s promise to Ravana, all the deities were worried. Lord Vishnu asked Varun Dev to enter Ravana’s stomach to break this promise.
On the way to Lanka, Ravan stops at a village for a rest. Also, he was thirsty. At this moment, Lord Vishnu arrived at Ravana’s court disguised as a local boy named Baiju. Baiju offered Ravana to quench his thirst from the nearest pond. During that time, he can take care of the Shivalinga.
Next, Ravana disappeared, and Biju established the Shivling on the land, after which the place was called Baijnath Dham.
When Ravana returned, he made lakhs of attempts, but the Shivlinga could not stand up. Angry Ravana understood this Leela of God and pressed the sibling with his thumb. Afterwards, all the goddesses came and worshipped the Shiva linga. From then on, Mahadev sits in Devghar as ‘Kamna Linga.
