My Baba Baidyanath Dham Mandir Deoghar

We visited this place on our Madhupur- Giridih–Deoghar tour from Kolkata. It was our 5-day tour from Kolkata. We visited Madhupur Pathrol kali mandir, Khandoli Dam, and Usri falls in Giridih, Naulakha Temple, Trikut hill, Satsang Ashram, Nandan Pahar, Tapovan, RKM, Nav Durga Mandir, Baidyanath Dham, Basukinath Dham, etc. This article is about Baba Baidyanath Dham. Insight of Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar

Baba Baidyanath Dham is the prime attraction in Deoghar. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. All are located in different places in India. Baidyanath Dham is 4 km away from Deoghar Railway station and Jasidih railway station, and the temple is eight k.m away.

In 1596, Raja Puranamal Laxmi Narayan built this temple. The Baidyanath Temple is 72 feet high, east-facing, and the temple looks like a lotus. Three gold ships are placed on the top of the temple, donated by the Maharaja of Gidhaur, Raja Puran Singh.

Apart from this, the ‘Punchsula Trishul’ and ‘Chandrakanta Mani’ are placed on top of the temple. The ‘Chandrakanta Mani’ is an eight-petal lotus. The main Shiva Linga is about 5 inches in diameter and placed on a large slab. Here top of the Shiva Linga is broken. On the temple premises, lots of other temples are dedicated to the various gods and goddesses.

There are 22 temples insight the temple complex. Like Saraswati, Kali, Tara Maa, Ganesh, Parvati, Ram-Sita, Manson, Mahakal, Bishweshwar, and many other gods and goddesses. These temples are built in new and old architectural styles. A holy well is situated in the temple complex.

In front of the Baidyanath Dham temple, Maa Parvati Temple is situated. This temple is one of the Satipith of 51 Satipith. Sati’s heart was fallen here. It is also a very sacred place for the devotees. First, pilgrims are offer puja to Baba Baidyanath, and then they offer puja to Maa Parvati.

Baidyanath Dham Puja

At the temple entrance, visitors enter through a small door to reach the Shiva lingam for ritual. After completing the puja, devotees come to the Mata Parvati temple opposite the Baba Baidyanath temple and do all the rituals. Then, the puja is complete in the traditional way.

For that reason, the Mandir of Mata Parvati and the main temple are tied up with red threads. These unique features and symbols show the unity of Shiva and Shakti.

Baidyanath Dham Temple Timings

The temple is open from 4.00 am to 3.30 pm, and from the evening 6.00 am to 9.00 pm.

The worship started at 4.00 am. From 4 am to 5.30 am. The temple heads priest offer puja to Baba Baidyanath. That is called Sarkari puja. From 5.30 am to 3.30 pm, the local public can offer their puja’s. After that, the temple is closed. Again at 6 pm, the temple is open for the devotees.

In the evening, Baba is decorated with flowers; it is known as ‘Baba’s Rajbesh’. At that time, no puja happened to the general public. This time the puja is called Shringar Puja. At 9 pm, the Mandir is closed.

In the Baidyanath temple, you can offer puja to Lord Siva very quickly by Baidyanath darshan VIP card. The card cost is 250 rupees, excluding the priest’s fee. Note – The temple authority stop the Baidyanath temple VIP Darshan facility due to heavy rush on special public occasions. Like during Shravani Mela.

Shravani Mela in Baijnath Dham Mandir Deoghar

Every Year The Shravani Mela begins in July and ends in August. It is for one monthly fair.

Baba Baidyanath Dham darshan is increased from July to August – in the month of Shravan.

During this period, millions of devotees gather in the Baidyanath Dham Jharkhand temple. As per the report, from July to August, around 50 to 55 lakhs of devotees visit Baijnath Dham Darshan.

First, they visit Sultanganj, which is 105 kilometres away from Baidyanath Dham mandir. In Sultanganj, the Ganges flow towards the north. Devotees collect water and carry it on their shoulders. After, Baidyanath Dham Yatra will start. They walk about 109 kilometres.

Before reaching Baidyanath Dham Deoghar temple, the devotees first came to Shivganga to take a dip and purify themselves. Then they enter the Hindu temple of Baijnath Dham Mandir Deoghar, where the holy water of the Ganges is pouring in on Baidyanath Dham Jyotirling.

By Train

From Kolkata, Deoghar is about 330 kilometres away. From Sealdah, Kolkata, and Howrah station, trains are available for Baidyanath Dham Deoghar.

It takes 6 to 7 hours by train. Baidyanath Dham nearest railway station is Deoghar railway station and Joshidih. So the station is also known as Baidyanath Dham Station; from here, Baidyanath Dham Mandir is 4 kilometres away. Outside the Deoghar railway station, you can get Auto, Toto for Baidyanath Temple.

By Car/Bus

From Kolkata – Esplanade Bus Stand, you can get many buses for Deoghar. From early morning to evening, you get buses for Deoghar and Baidyanath Dham. Kolkata to Deoghar distance is approximately 321 kilometres via NH19. It takes 6 to 7 hours by roadway.

Baba Baidyanath Dham History

The philosophy of twelve Jyotirlingas in Hinduism has great importance. All of these exciting stories are associated with Shiva. The ‘Kamna Ling’, established in Baidyanath Dham of Devghar, is also a symbol of the devotion of Ravana.

Story of Baijnath Dham Mandir

According to mythology, Dashanan Ravana was practising meditation on the Himalayas to please Lord Shankar. So he cut his head one by one and placed it on the Shiva Linga.

When Ravana was in an attempt to cut his last head, Mahadev pleased and saw him. Then Ravana asked for a boon to take an established ‘Kamna Ling’ to Lanka.

Mahadev was satisfied and accepted his wish with a condition. The condition is, he does not leave the Shivaling anywhere in the journey. Ravana agrees with the agreement.

All deities worried after listening to Lord Shiva’s promise to Ravana. To break this promise, Lord Vishnu asked Varun Dev to enter Ravana’s stomach.

On the way to Lanka, Ravan stops at a village for a rest. Also, he was thirsty. At this moment, Lord Vishnu came to Ravana disguised as a local boy named Baiju. Baiju offered Ravana to quench his thirst from the nearest pond. In that time, he can take care of the shiv linga.

Next, Ravana disappeared, and Biju established the Shivling on the land. After, the place called Baijnath Dham.

When Ravana returned and made lakhs of attempts, but Shivling could not stand up. Angry Ravana understood this Leela of God, and he pressed the sibling with his thumb. After, all goddesses came and worshipped the shiv linga. From then on, Mahadev sits in Devghar as ‘Kamna Linga.

Baidyanath Dham is about 273 km from Kolkata. You can reach Baidyanath Dham by train/car. The best way is via train from Howrah to Jasidih (nearest station from Baidyanath Dham), 1. Sealdah to Sitamarhi Express daily departed from Sealdah at 6:00 am and arrived at Jasidih at 1:37 pm. 2. Poorva Express departure(run on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) from Howrah at 8:00 am and arrived at Jasidih at noon.

How can I reach Baidyanath Dham from the Jasidih railway station?

Jasidih railway station is 10 km away from Baidyanath Dham. Cars/taxi/auto/bus/toto are available. It takes approx. 30 minus to reach Baidyanath Dham.
