Sunshine Farm is a family-operated New England farm of the third generation. Roberta and Jim Geoghegan manage it. This 100-acre farm provides PYO fruits like strawberries, peaches, raspberries, and apples and offers CSA shares & homegrown vegetables.

Parle Farms in Tyngsboro is a flower farm and PYO (pick your own) fruit destination. In 1986, owners Ellen & Mark started the business with 10 acres. 4. Boston Hill Farm – North Andover, Massachusetts

Boston Hill Farm, in North Andover, is a pretty orchard & farm. There is a stand for ice cream and farm. Products like chicken pies, homegrown vegetables, fresh honey, homemade apple cider, & doughnuts are available at farm stands.

5. Spring Rain Farm – East Taunton, Massachusetts

Spring Rain Farm is a 112-acre large family farm offering strawberry picking in Massachusetts. In 1980, Mary McCaffrey & Billy McCaffrey bought the farm to establish a cranberry bog.

6. Langwater Farm – North Easton, Massachusetts

Langwater Farm is a beautiful 80-acre farmland. Half of the land is wooded, and the other half is a tilled area for crop growing. The farmland comprises beautiful-gently curved fields amidst a stone wall. A dirt road goes through the fields and woods, and Langwater Pond borders from the West.

7. Keiths Farm – Acushnet, Massachusetts

Keiths Farm in Massachusetts is owned by Sue Santos and Keith. Initially, the farm was a 2-acre land. They used it to grow strawberries using a blue tarp overhead (which protects them from rain).

With the passing years, they purchased more land. To grow fruits & vegetables like pumpkin, apple, tomatoes, corn, eggplant, berries, etc. A farmstand was added to market crops. Visitors get to enjoy hayrides from September end.

8. C N Smith Farm East – Bridgewater, Massachusetts

C N Smith Farm in East Bridgewater is a family-operated farm. In the 1920s, Carl Smith established a 20-acre farm for growing potatoes. 

Currently, the farm spreads over a large area of 90 acres. Besides PYO fruits, other crops grown are lettuce, tomatoes, corn, asparagus, peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, etc. Over time, they added much poultry, livestock, vegetables, and PYO fruits.

9. Smolak Farms – North Andover

Smolak Farm is the most beautiful and progressive farm amidst the mountains of Northeast Massachusetts. In 1982, the Smolak family sought help from the State of Massachusetts Agricultural Preservation Restriction Program to protect 107 out of 160 acres of land from development.

For the last 40 years, H. Michael Smolak has been looking after the Smolak farm.

10. Rogers Spring Hill Farm – Haverhill, MA

Randolf Rogers set up Rogers Spring Farm in Haverhill, MA. In 1902, he purchased 2.5 acres of land, a cow & horse, and cultivated vegetables. Harold Rogers (son) expanded the farm area, bought more cows, and entered the milk distribution business (1941).

Rogers’ family started the “spring water business” after discovering spring water on the farm in 1978. The Rogers Spring Hill Water is well-distributed & popular in New England.  

For the first time, strawberries were grown by Richard (grandson) on Spring Hill Farm in the 1980s. Gradually, they added PYO fruits like apples and pumpkins. Rogers’ family purchased a garden center in 1990 to grow perennials, annuals, vegetables & fruits.

11. Verrill Farm – Concord, Massachusetts

Verrill Farm was first started in 1918 as a dairy business. The farmland is spread over 200 acres in Sudbury and Concord. The First 100 acres comprise the main farmland, and the next 100 comprise wetlands, wildlife habitats & woodlands.

In 1982, as per Agricultural Preservation Restriction, the area of Verrill Farm was declared development-free.

Clearview Farm (top of Kendall Hill) has been in business for over 200 years. Visitors are offered locally grown fresh products. Kosinski Farms, a family-operated farm in Westfield, was set up in the 1930s. Sustainable Agricultural Methods are used on the farm to grow crops.

Ingaldsby Farm, a family-operated farm, was established in 1911. The farm offers visitors seasonal vegetables, fruits, and plants from April until December. Four Town Farm was established in the 1900s by David Solomen in the Seekonk area. Initially, the farm sold products to wholesale grocery store customers. Later, “they built the Stand” (roadside cart) to sell melons, vegetables & other fruits. Since the 1970s, Four Town Farm has entered the greenhouse business; currently, they own 23 greenhouses. 

The season at Four Town opens in April (mid) with various annuals, perennials, mixed containers & hanging baskets. Four Town Farmstand remains open through the holidays to sell freshly cut wreaths and trees.

16. Russell Orchards – Ipswich, Massachusetts

Russell Orchards has been serving as a working farm since 1920. They previously called the farm Goodale Orchards”. Dr. Joseph Goodale grew the first trees as recreation for his son. Kenneth Macleod (farm manager for Goodale) was the second owner. He started a cider mill in the southern part. After his retirement, several neighbors purchased Goodale to prevent development. 

With help from Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR), Essex County Greenbelt Association declared Goodale Orchards development-free land. In 2000, Russell’s family (current owners) purchased the farm.

This 120-acre large fruit farm is presently known as “Russell Orchards.” There are dozens of PYO fruits like peaches, strawberries, plums, apples, cherries, pears, blueberries, etc.  

Russell Orchards owns a store selling ice cream, eggs, honey, cider, books, local products, etc. They run a bakery & winery and organize school tours.

17. Marini Farm Stand – Ipswich, Massachusetts

Marini Farm Stand is a third-generation family-operated enterprise. In 1928, four emigrants and related families from Italy came to the US & established Marini Farm. After many years of family turbulence, the Marini family emerged as the sole owners of the farm in 1978. 

Initially, Marini Farm was a wholesale company. They sold vegetables & fruits like potatoes, blueberries, tomatoes, strawberries, apples, pears, etc., to Boston Produce Market and Local A&P. Over 10,000 chickens and kept three cows. They transported the eggs to many towns in Ipswich & Salem and used milk for family consumption. 

In 1972, Marini Farms started its first retail business by selling extra strawberries. The farm grows vegetables & fruits on 200 acres of land. Marini also leases an additional 100 acres of property to grow sweet corn. Growing methods like row covers, plastic beds, frost control, and drip irrigation are used to harvest crops. 

During spring, the greenhouse at Marini fills with perennials, vegetable plants, annuals, herbs, etc. The firm added 30 acres of gourds, pumpkins, and winter squash throughout the years. In 1980, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) was used by Marini Farm for the first time. It helps in producing healthy & safe vegetables and fruits.

Cider Hill Farm is a third-generation 145-acre large farm. Ed Cook and Eleanor Cook purchased it in 1978. Cider contributes to reducing carbon footprint by generating electricity from wind turbines and 840-paneled solar cells. 

Visitors get to enjoy several activities at Cider Hill Farm. 20. Tougas Family Farm – Northborough, Massachusetts

Tougas Family Farm is a family-operated farm. In 1981, Phyllis Tougas and Maurice Tougas bought this 53 acres of a home farm from Paul Fawcett. 

At first, it was only an apple & peach orchard. They added apple stands, a kitchen, a playground, and a barnyard with time.
